Dysphagia is difficulty moving food from the mouth to the stomach. An estimated 15 million adults in the U.S. suffer from dysphagia. Complications of dysphagia include pneumonia, malnutrition, and dehydration. Vegas Voice Institute offers two diagnostics exams to study a person’s swallowing anatomy and to determine the presence of a dysphagia.  Swallow evaluation and a FEES Study – developed in 1988 – performed with a flexible camera to view the pharynx while the patient swallows. FEES is the only examination of a swallow that examines both the laryngeal reflexes for airway protection and bolus transportation.
